Music from Appenzell

The "Appenzell Dulcimer" - The development of the hammered dulcimer! The hammered dulcimer is an ancient instrument and was developed from the Persian santur. This was spread over the centuries by travellers from the Persian-Indian region over the continents. Therefore, we now know in any cultural environment another dulcimer-like instrument with the appropriate adapted music culture properties and moods.

All in this way developed musical instruments the trapezoidal shape is in common, as the large number of strings and the kind of playing with different sticks, called “Ruten”. The interaction of rhythm, harmony and melody and the distinctive, harmonically rich sound makes the fascination that comes from this instrument. In Switzerland, the hammered dulcimer is known since the 16th Century, so in Appenzell, where it occupies an important position in the music.

Susanne is from the 5th Generation of the famous “Alder” dynasty and Benjamin's ancestors were known with their songs. With great passion your hosts Benjamin and Susanne Rempfler-Alder connect with the dulcimer at various occasions.
